This award honours the artist who excels in combining diverse materials and techniques in furniture refinishing. Your submission should reflect a harmonious fusion of different media to create a unique masterpiece.
Mixed Media Approach: Provide a 150-word or more, description detailing the materials and techniques used. Explain the integration and overall concept.
Visual Diversity: Submit up to 5 high-quality images showing the blend of materials and techniques. Each image should be at least 500×500 pixels. Remember, the bigger the image, the better the quality of the prints at the event. Our judges will be viewing the images on our website, so higher resolution images will look much better and showcase your work more effectively.
Cohesive Design: Present a finished piece that showcases the seamless integration of various media.

Mixed Media Approach: To refinish an old dresser, I combined multiple materials and techniques to create a unique piece. First, I thoroughly cleaned and sanded the dresser to prepare it for painting. I used a soft pastel palette, applying several thin coats of chalk paint to achieve a smooth, matte finish. To add texture and visual interest, I covered the drawer fronts with a vintage floral fabric, securing it with a decoupage medium. I then decoupaged intricate floral patterns on the sides of the dresser, blending them seamlessly with the painted surface. For the final touch, I added delicate hand-painted details and a protective topcoat to enhance durability.
